InCard’s next accomplishment was to embed an LED into a payment card. This is not an easy thing to do. The LED itself had to be custom manufactured in a smaller size, and needed an ultra-thin battery and circuitry to provide power. This ultra-thin configuration had to be specially engineered to withstand the intense heat and pressure of lamination. The resulting card had to be no thicker than a standard payment card and very durable. InCard persevered, and after spending millions of dollars testing designs, proprietary Power Inlay Technology – an embedded battery, circuit and switch – was born. The LightCard was its first application.
